We are 2 weeks into January. How are your goals coming? Are you still plugging along? Have you given up on your goals altogether? I hope your still making progress and I hope you’re finding time to show yourself a little self-care as well. I have something fun today I think will help you be able to do that. I’m sharing with you on how to Create a Self-Care Journal.
The first thing you’ll want to do is gather some fun supplies. I got all my supplies from Oriental Trading. I got a blank journal, lots of washi tape, some fun markers and some encouraging stickers. They have a great selection and I was able to sit on my couch and pick them all out.
I started by decorating the outside of my journal cover with the stickers.
Then I started creating my pages that I want in my journal. I want to journal about:
Things I’m grateful for.
I want to keep track of the things I ‘m grateful for. There are sooooooo many benefits to showing our gratitude both from a spiritual standpoint and a physical one. You can read about the importance of gratitude here.
When I write down what I’m grateful for I try and go a bit deeper than gratitude my food or bed, etc. I try to write down specific detailed things. This trains my brain to look for the good every day. See my examples below.
2. My Daily Win’s
The next thing I want to record is my acknowledgments or “Daily Wins”.
What did I do good yesterday? Where do I need to celebrate myself? It’s soooooo easy for me to expect myself to be perfect.
Guess what?? I’m NOT! There are a lot of things I mess up and fall short on every day. If I only focus on the mess ups, which is my natural bend, then I’m going to be a stressed out mess (can anyone relate??)
We become what we focus on. So if I’m always focusing on where I’ve messed up there will be very little progress. But the opposite will be true as well, if I focus on the things I’m growing in or the times I’m giving and kind, this will produce more of that behavior in my life.
The Best Self Journal
This simple act of writing down my daily wins has been a life changer for me. I suggest you try it. Again, try and be as specific as you can when writing them down.
3. Record my Dreams
I want to keep my dreams in front of my eyes. My self-care journal is a great place to do that. That way I can review them consistently. Have fun and be creative in how you display them. It would also be smart to include pictures, kinda like a mini vision board.
I just listened to a podcast on the importance of writing your dreams and goals down every single day this helps your review them and put them as a focus daily. I haven’t done that but I will be able to by using this self-care journal.

Here are some of the other things I’m putting in my Self-Care Journal.
- Goals
- Prayer Requests/Answered Prayers
- To-Do List
- Food journal
- Brain Dump Section-There is a lot of times I need to just dump the junk out of my brain. Here is a space to write those yucky things down and cross them out and rewrite the positive or look up a scripture to refute those negative thoughts.
- Quotes I love
- Things to do when I need a pick-me-up (see my 30 Simple Self-Care Ideas and add some to your journal)
